Mr Daniel Syme, Deputy Upper East Regional Minister, at the weekend described the street naming and property addressing project as key for revenue mobilization for Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies.
Mr Syme said this when he commissioned the projects in the Garu-Tempane, Binduri and Pusiga districts and the Bawku Municipal in the Upper East Region.
The Deputy Minister said the project would allow the MMDAs to locate any part of the district and mobilize the needed resources to develop the area.
He explained that this would put the assemblies on track to trace persons who fail to pay revenue and bring such defaulters to book, because development of the area depended more on the mobilization of revenue.
Mr Syme noted that it would also make locations easier for visitors to know and encourage investment.
The Deputy Minister visited five districts in the Bawku area and inspected twenty five of the sign posts in each of the districts.
At the Garu-Tempane district, some of the streets were named after renowned personalities and prominent places which included Agbang, Alalyoog, Azi’ilim and Nakpanduri.
In Bawku, names such as Abugrago I street, which is the name of the over lord of the Bawku Traditional Area, Ayana by pass, Manga, Bawkzua, Catholic road among others were given to some streets.
At the Binduri district, names such as Bazua Army Barracks, Asou’al, Asambo, Aduuda, Alhaji 44, and the Bazua Chief Palace road were chosen for streets.
The District Chief Executive of the area, Mr Daniel Adoliba said the various personalities named after the streets had contributed immensely to the development of the area.
The Chiefs and People in the districts commended government for its efforts in making the exercise come to reality, and promised to cooperate with the authorities to ensure that the projects were completed.
