The church must encourage abortion – NGO

The Church must stop being hypocritical about abortion and start preaching it on the pulpit, says health NGO SAVE Ghana.

“I think that they have to encourage it because it is high time we talked about it more…I think that it’s high time we don’t play that hypocritical thing and face the reality that our people just need sex information like they need information about the Bible”, SAVE Ghana Executive Director Kingsley Kanton told STARR NEWS Tuesday.

Safe abortion is legal under certain conditions in Ghana, especially when a pregnancy puts the expectant mother and/or the foetus at risk.

The law also allows the pregnancies of minors impregnated through statutory rape or defilement to be terminated safely.

Kanton is of the view that the Church’s blanket condemnation of abortion of any kind–legal or illegal–as well as safe or unsafe, makes it difficult for Christians, who need safe abortion services to go for them.
