International businessman Mo Ibraham has stated that the seeming high political temperature in Ghana is hampering the absolute democratic development of the country.
According to him, Ghana and Senegal will see more democratic improvement if the intensity in the political temperature is reduced.
“Ghana and Senegal are good countries. Very wonderful democratic countries. They have very good natural resources” the businessman told the BBC.
When asked what he felt was hampering development in the two countries, Ibrahim said “Probably the political temperature is a little bit too high in these two countries. I really will like to see a little bit of calmness going forward”.
He was speaking on the 2014 Ibrahim Index of African Governance.
Ghana was ranked 7th out of 52 countries on participation in governance and human rights.
Ghana retained its 2013 position on the ranking, increasing its score by 1.6 to 68.2 per cent on the four thematic areas of Safety & Rule of Law, Participation & Human Rights, Sustainable Economic Opportunity and Human Development
The assessment per the Ibrahim Index of African Governance was done in areas of safety and rule of law, participation and human rights, sustainable economic opportunity and human development.
