President John Dramani Mahama has thrown his support for ally Alassane Ouattara in next year’s presidential elections in La Cote d’Ivoire.
“Cote d’Ivoire is fairly more stable and as long as the alliance between the PDC and President Ouattara’s party holds my expectation is that that government might win a second term,” President Mahama stated on Monday, September 22 in a chat with investors in New York.
He was wooing the over 500 investors into doing business in West Africa.
President Mahama was speaking in his capacity as Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (Ecowas).
Ghana’s president assumed the post early this year by succeeding Ivorian leader President Ouattara, who will be seeking reelection in 2015.
“I guess that [Ouattara’s reelection] will be a good thing for Cote d’Ivoire having come out of a conflict that was created by a disputed election,” he said.
“I think that some stability in Cote d’Ivoire will be helpful to the whole sub-region.”
