Ahanta West District Assembly grants more loans to people

The Ahanta West District Assembly has so far disbursed 406.5 million cedis under the government’s micro-finance programme to 652 people to help them in their businesses.

Mr Kwesi Biney, the District Chief Executive, who was opening the first session of the Assembly at Agona Nkwanta on Thursday, said the assembly would soon disburse another 100 million cedis to farmers and fishmongers.

Mr Biney cautioned the beneficiaries that the loans are not free adding “very soon we shall be knocking at the doors of those whose payments are due.” O n roads, Mr Biney said it was the policy of the NPP government to move away from the re-gravelling of feeder roads to tarring to ensure a longer lifespan.

He said the Apowa and Adjua roads have been awarded on contract for tarring while the St. Mary’s-Funkoe road would be awarded on contract soon for tarring.

On education, the DCE said work on the one-storey classroom block in Agona Nkwanta was in progress and that the assembly had added a six-seater water closet to the project in addition to provision of electricity, all costing 800 million cedis out of which the assembly had paid 600 million cedis.

He said Primary schools and JSS in the district have also been supplied with 7,500 dual desks.

Mr Biney regretted that despite provision of potable water some inhabitants of Agona Nkwanta continued to use water from ponds and wells.

He appealed to chiefs, assembly members, opinion leaders and churches to help educate the people on the need to keep their environment clean.
