GMA condemns strike action

The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has condemned the strike action of junior doctors and appealed to them to resume work immediately.

It has also appealed to the government to expedite action on the negotiation process to ensure a mutually acceptable solution to the grievances of the junior doctors.

A statement issued in Accra by the GMA and jointly signed by Dr Jacob Plange-Rhule and Dr K. S. Jehu-Appiah, President and Secretary respectively of the association, after an emergency meeting on Wednesday expressed surprise at the decision by some of the junior doctors of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital to embark on the strike action.

It said while condemning the strike action, “it recognises that the action is a manifestation of the frustrations that doctors and all categories of health professionals in Ghana feel as a result of the protracted delay of negotiations between the government and the leadership of the health professionals”.
