Agona Nyakrom (Central Region) 29, Sept. Alhaji Abudul Nasir, Director, Siddiq Education Centre at Agona Nyakrom, has expressed concern about the separation of boys and girls in senior secondary schools under the Islamic Education Unit. He said the separation hampers the educational advancement of Muslim girls. Alhaji Nasir, in an interview with newsmen at Nyakrom, appealed to the Unit to expedite action on the construction of a hostel for girls and classrooms at the Centre. He also called on the Agona district assembly, non-governmental organizations and philanthropists to assist the centre to enable it to train the youth. Alhaji Nasir explained that Al-Muntada, an Accra based NGO, established the Centre to enable Muslim youth in the area to gain access to formal education.
He announced that the PTA of the centre is putting up hostels for students from outside the district. He said 24 former students from the centre gained admission to the university between 1993 and 1996 and thanked the Ministry of Education, Agona district assembly and other organizations for their support.
