Heads of Liberia, Sierra Leone heap praise on Mahama for visit

Presidents of Liberia and Sierra Leone were full of praise for Ghana’s president, John Dramani Mahama, for his visit to their countries on Monday, an official at the presidency has disclosed.

President Mahama in his capacity as Chair of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) embarked on the one-day tour of the two countries and Guinea, in solidarity with them as they battle the deadly Ebola virus.

Speaking on TV3’s Midday Live on Tuesday, a day after the visit, Ben Dotse Malor, the Head of Communications at the Presidency, said Liberia President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf expressed profound gratitude to Ghana’s leader for his gesture.

“At our moment of greatest need, you did not abandon us,” President Sirleaf is quoted as saying.

According to Mr. Malor, the situation on the ground in those countries is not reflective of the “stories we hear and the pictures we see.”

“Your coming here has broken our isolation,” President Ernest Bai Koroma of Sierra Leone is also quoted as saying.

President Mahama took the opportunity to call on donors to fast-track promises and pledges for the affected countries.

He also presented assorted items to the three countries.
