Ebola scare: Doctors desert patients at Achimota Hospital

Health workers at the Achimota Hospital in Accra have reportedly abandoned the facility over a suspected Ebola case Sunday.

A patient was rushed to the hospital Sunday morning showing symptoms of the deadly disease that is sweeping lives in West Africa. Other patients at the hospital have been left to their fate, local station Citi FM is reporting.

According to the Head of Disease Surveillance at the Ghana Health Service, Dr Badu Sakordie, the case is being investigated.

StarrFMOnline.com understands that the suspected Ebola patient is a Nigerian and is battling severe fever.

“We are just getting it like you are doing so we are yet to follow up, so I don’t have too many details to come out. Let’s investigate,” Dr Sakordie told Accra-based Citi FM.

He said the Noguchi Memorial Institute is yet to release their report on the suspected case. “They take a sample, but then this one we had the information… they haven’t given us a report, these things we can’t preempt, let’s do the proper investigation and come out.”
