DCE appeals to chiefs to maintain role as peace makers

Mr. James Gunu, the Akatsi North District Chief Executive, has appealed to traditional rulers to safe guard peace and unity in society.

He said in place of “wars of weapons” which the chiefs led in the past, the battle now was that of wits, against illiteracy, poverty, ignorance and underdevelopment.

Mr. Gunu said this when Mama Sashikpe III, the Paramount Queen of Ave-Dakpa Traditional Area, was customarily introduced to him and officials of the Assembly following her recent installation.

Mr. Gunu expressed regret about the spate of chieftaincy and land conflicts in the country, saying “they are stifling the country’s time and resources needed to advance national development”.

He said areas engaged in conflicts unavoidably entrenched themselves in more deprivations and appealed to chiefs to seek unity for their areas.

Mr. Gunu congratulated Mama Sashikpe on her peaceful installation and assured her of the Assembly’s collaboration and support.

He said the time when queens were relegated to the background by their male counterparts was over.

The DCE also appealed to Mama Sashikpe to accept becoming matron of the soon-to-be-formed District Girl/ Child Education Club to promote girl child education in the area.

Mr. Patrick Ahiabu, Presiding Member of the Assembly, thanked chiefs and land owners for their generosity in the release of lands for development projects.

Mama Sashikpe pledged to seek the interest of her people and appealed for prayers and cooperation of all.
