NDC must revive grassroots to retain power – Abodakpi

Mr. Dan Abodakpi, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Malaysia has said the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) must quickly revive its grassroots to enable it to retain power in 2016.

Addressing the South Tongu constituency delegates’ conference at Sogakope at the weekend, during which new executives were elected, he said weaknesses at the party’s grassroots were real.

Mr. Abodakpi, who is vying for the position of national chairman, said the desire to rebuild the party’s grassroots in particular and the party generally, was partly why he decided to join the contest.

“A weak grassroots means a weak party and we have to act quickly”, he said.

Commending the peace in the party front in the area, Mr Abodakpi entreated the new executives to work hard and in collaboration with all and urged continuous support for the ruling party.

Mr. Samuel Mawuko Eworyi, DCE for the area, said government was working hard despite challenges to build a strong country.

All the old executives, except William Amedzo, Organiser and Gladys Abaya, Women’s Organiser, retained their positions in the elections, supervised by officials of the Electoral Commission.

Mr. Christian Sakli, 66, a former District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area is the new Constituency Chairman, Michael Amekor – Secretary, Kwasi Gbadago – Treasurer, Bruno Gakpetor – Youth Organiser and William Adusu – Propaganda Secretary.

A total of 48 people vied for the 18 positions with 464 delegates attending.
