NPP race: Ghartey must write to party over his exit – Agyepong

NPP flagbearer aspirants who will decide not to contest in the upcoming national delegates conference in October must officially write to the party with their reasons, the party’s general secretary Kwabena Agyepong has said.

So far one out of the five shortlisted individuals has withdrawn from the contest bringing the number to four.

MP for Essikado-Ketan, Joe Ghartey, opted out of the flagbearership race after his poor showing in the mini delegates’ congress that reduced the number of aspirants from seven to five.

“The aspirants who are not interested not partaking in the main presidential primaries must officially state their reasons. At the end of the day we want to respect the constitution and they need to inform us that they do not intend to carry on. They need to put into writing and we will put it before NEC,” the former presidential press secretary told Radio Gold in an interview.

The Two- time presidential candidate of the main opposition New Patriotic Party, Nana Akufo-Addo will be up against three other candidates including his main rival Alan Kyerematen in the October conference aimed at electing a flagbearer for the 2016 elections.
