Fishermen asked to settle debt

The management of Akatakyiman Rural Bank has appealed to fishermen who have still not completed payment of outboard motors sold to them under the Emergency Social Relief Fund (ESRF) to do so immediately.

Mr Ebow Rockson, accountant of the bank, made the appeal at a forum organised by the bank for fishermen on the need to pay back the loans for others to benefit.

Out of 15 fishermen supplied with 15 outboard motors only 153,800 cedis had been paid to the bank leaving a balance of 81,290,000.

Nana Kwame Atta, acting chief fisherman of Komenda Fishermen Association, attributed their inability to complete payment to inadequate, unfair and irregular supply of premix fuel.

He said it was only when they pay for the machines that government would bring in more machines
