Gov’t committed to girl-child education – Minister

Mr Kojo Bonsu, Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), says government would not shirk its responsibility on girl-child education.

The government, he said, is determined to equip the girl-child with the relevant literacy skills to be groomed for the benefit of the nation.

Speaking to Ghana News Agency in Kumasi, he said the ruling National Democratic Congress is constructing and rehabilitating educational facilities, providing furniture and other teaching and learning materials to achieve the Millennium Development Goal on girl-child education.

This was after he inspected work on a six-unit classroom block at Afia Kobi M/A Basic School at Ashanti New Town as well as a six-unit classroom block each for the Adiebaba M/A Basic School and Kwadaso SDA Basic School.

The rest are the construction of an ultra-modern wash room facility with mechanised borehole for the Asem cluster of schools, girls’ dormitory block for the Anglican Senior High School and a Doctors’ bungalow for Manhyia Hospital.

The MCE said Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly would continue to liaise with stakeholders to raise awareness on girl-child education.

On sanitation, Mr Bonsu advised the people to embrace good sanitary practices to ward off communicable diseases and should be law-abiding to help the Assembly meet its development agenda.
