Children knocked down by vehicles in search of water

Children who trek long distances in search of water following an acute water shortage in Aboadze and its surrounding communities for almost two months are being knocked down by vehicles resulting in injuries.

The assembly member of Aboadze Electoral Area, Mr. Frederick Mensah, told journalists in Takoradi that both children and adults had to walk long distances in search of water due to damage to Ghana Water Company’s pipeline that supply water to the area.

He said the damage was caused by a private real estate developer at Nyanykrom where the pipeline passes to Aboadze, Abuesi and other hamlets in the area, thus depriving the residents’ of water for almost two months.

Mr. Mensah said upon investigations the damage was detected, and we informed the Ghana Water Company, and it was repaired the fault about two weeks ago.

However, the assembly member said that due to a leakage on the pipelines it had reduced pressure in the lines thereby reducing flow of water to the area and those in hilly areas were still not getting water.

Kwamena Acquah, Western Regional Public Relations Officer of Ghana Water Company (GWC), told the GNA in an interview that the company that damaged the pipelines was made to foot the cost of the repairs.
