A former General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Dan Botwe, has urged members of the party not to compel the four other candidates who made the list of five alongside the party’s two-time presidential candidate in Sunday’s Super delegates’ congress to opt out of the race.
According to him, such machinations will be against the tenets of the party.
There are calls in the opposition party for the four other candidates to bow out considering the margin of victory by the former attorney general.
Akufo-Addo garnered over 80 percent of the total valid votes cast in the ballot meant to whittle down the number of flagbearer aspirants from seven to five.
His closest contender Alan Kyeremanteng managed a paltry 7.97 percent.
Speaking on Accra-based Asempa FM, the former Information minister said the aspirants must be allowed to decide whether they will give up or still go into the October conference.
“Our party is a democratic institution and things are not forced on people. Even if only Akufo-Addo were to be the candidate, we will still have to go to the October conference to endorse him. The process must be exhausted as dictated by the party’s constitution,” he stated.
