Conference To Encourage Joint Efforts Towards Achieving Peace In Africa Opens

A four-day conference on peace and goodwill in Africa has opened in Accra. the conference which is being organised by the Ghana Evangelical Society, aims at encouraging joint efforts of the church, government and the people in establishing and consolidating peace in Africa. Opening it, the leader of the Ghana Evangelical Society, Reverend Enoch Agbozo, said the cost of wars and conflicts is higher than the total Gross Domestic Product of the continent. He therefore called on African Leaders to work together to achieve sustainable peace. The UNDP Resident Representative in Ghana, Mr.. Abdoulie Janneh, said it is only when sustainable economic and social development are rooted in society that both the individual and the state can fulfill their aspirations that truly reflect the image of God. He said the effect of globalisation has made people skeptical about their national authorities. The U.N. is therefore trying to reduce the sense of insecurity in the people of Africa.
