VRA presents vehicle to KNUST

Kumasi, Feb 3, GNA-Prof Kwesi Andam, Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has called for collaboration between the academia and industry to deal with problems affecting industrial growth and development.

He said the university had the capacity to produce competent engineers required by industries in Ghana to move the country into the middle-income level.

Professor Andam made the call when he received a Nissan four-wheel-drive from the Volta River Authority (VRA).

The vehicle, valued at 26,500 dollars, will be used by the staff of the School of Engineering of the university to travel to Akuse to teach VRA staff who are undergoing a one-year bridge course.

Prof Andam s! aid the agreement between the university and the VRA was aimed at upgrading the skills of some technicians and staff of the company while the VRA will also help the University by injecting equipment and materials for teaching and research.

He appealed to institutions to form closer collaboration with the university to improve output of staff. Dr Charles Wireko-Brobbey, Chief Executive of VRA, said there was the need for industries and institutions that were the direct beneficiaries of products of the universities to assist to ensure growth and sustainability.

He said the VRA which had almost all its professionals produced from the university had set the pace to support the university.
