Aprokumase primary school gets a new school block

The Ministry of Education has initiated action to provide Aprokunase Primary School in the Birim Central Municipality with a new classroom block, Mr Fred Herbert Kpoor, the Municipal Director of Education, has said.

This followed a publication by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) Media Auditing and Tracking of Development project team at Akim Oda about the poor condition of the school.

The project is aimed at promoting transparency and accountability at the district level and it is being sponsored by STAR-Ghana, a malti-donor funding agency.

Mr Kpoor said the Education Directorate was yet to hold a discussion with the community for a possible relocation of the school because of its closeness to the Mosque which made classes to be suspended for almost an hour anytime the Muslims reported for mid-day prayers.

Teachers and pupils of the school recently made an appealed for a decent classroom block.

The school, which is the only primary school in the community, was built with mud bricks with sandy floors by the community many years ago and it has now become a death trap for both the school children and the teachers.

Due to the poor nature of the classrooms, the school has to close anytime rain clouds start gathering.
