The Evangelical Presbyterian (E.P) Church, Ghana, is to adopt two witches’ camps in the Northern region under its ageing programme and project.
Right Reverend Francis Amenu, Moderator of the General Assembly announced this at the opening session of the sixth General Assembly underway in Ho on Thursday.
It is under the theme, “God of life, lead us to justice, peace and dignity for wholeness.
The General Assembly is expected to elect a new Moderator for the Church to succeed Right Reverend Amenu whose six straight years in charge comes to an end this year.
Front-runners in the race are said to be Reverend Dr Setri Nyomi, out-going Secretary-General of Geneva based World Council of Reformed Churches (WCRC) and Reverend Dr Seth Senyo Agidi, Director, Programmes Ecumenical and Social Relations of the E.P Church.
Right Reverend Amenu said the Church with support from Global Ministries USA, has put up a new dormitory block “to help remove vulnerable children from the streets, markets and alleys.”
He said the Church plans to establish a Secondary-Technical School at Katiejeli in the Northern region in addition to Colleges of Education in Dzodze in the Volta Region and Konongo in the Ashanti Region this year.
The Church is also putting up a multi-purpose storey building at its Headquarters in Ho to serve as offices and supermarket.
Right Reverend Amenu said the Church is also establishing a fundraising scheme as a more sustainable means of revenue generation for the Church.
He said the Church would soon outdoor a 10-years Strategic Plan.
On the sixth General Assembly theme, Right Reverend Amenu said it is among others “a petition to God to lead us towards a desired goal, a prayer pledging our willingness to follow wherever God leads us and for meticulous pursuits leading to wholeness.”
“Government indeed appreciates the immense continuous contributions of the E.P. Church and it is our prayer that this useful collaboration between the Church and the State would continue forever. Accept our outmost congratulations for these new initiatives,” Ms Helen Adjoa Ntoso, Volta Regional Minister said in an address to the Assembly.
