Rawlings: Mills’ death was a blessing to NDC

Former president Rawlings has attributed the victory of the governing NDC in the 2012 elections to the demise of the late president Mills.

According to him, it was a known fact that the NDC would have lost the elections if the late president were alive.

In an interview with Metro TV’s Frank Nyonator, the former military leader said: “Had the Good Lord not called Mills away NDC would have lost the election. As clear as daylight. We all knew it. So in a way his departure was also a blessing”.

He said he disagreed with the late law professor because he (Mills) failed to do many things right.

Commenting on the perceived corruption in the Mahama – led administration, Rawlings said the current NDC government is struggling to fight the menace because it lacks the men with integrity.

“The NDC as it stands now doesn’t have what it takes really to exert the necessary pressure on the executive or to assist the president. So what we are hoping for is that it will come out with personalities of integrity who will restore a sense of hope back in their support base, in the country as a whole because it is a truly disappointing and painful situation.

“We’ve done it before and I don’t see why we can’t do it again. We just have to fall on the right people and track the right path,” the NDC founder noted.
