Two convicted over kidnapping of a female teacher

A businessman and another person accused of kidnapping a female teacher at Atwima-Agogo in the Atwima-Nwabiagya District have been convicted by the Nkawie Circuit Court, presided over by Mr Michael Johnson Abbey.

Osei Kofi, 30, the businessman, and Kwabena Darko, 25 and unemployed, faced an added charge of causing harm.

They were each sentenced to a fine of GH¢ 2,400 and should they fail to pay the money they would serve five years in prison.

They pleaded not guilty to the offence.

Three other accomplices, Kofi Atta, Paa Akwasi and Kofi Oppong, are however on the run.

Police Detective Emmanuel Appiah-Kubi said the incident happened on February 03.

The teacher, Sophia Amankwah, had bought a piece of land for a building project at Atwima-Agogo and had engaged the services of a mason to work on it, when the convicts attacked and seized her.

She was later rescued by the police and the two were arrested whilst their other accomplices slipped through.
