Latter-Day Saints undertakes clean-up campaign in W/R

Members of the Takoradi branch of the Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Saturday embarked on a four-hour clean-up campaign to rid the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis and Shama District of filth and squalor.

They desilted drains, weeded bushy areas and burnt piled-up rubbish, as part of the Church’s Annual Humanitarian Service dubbed the “All Africa Service Project” which was instituted eight years ago.

More than 600 members drawn from the various wards and branches of the church swept and removed cobwebs at the Takoradi Central Market, Kojokrom market, Sekondi Central Police Station and Essipong M/A Primary School.

The Head of Public Affairs of the Takoradi Stake, Mr. Richard Osei, reiterated the commitment of the church to continuously raise public consciousness to maintain a healthy environment to promote good health.

He asked the general public to ensure personal hygiene to avoid contracting Cholera and other communicable diseases.

Madam Matilda Kuddy, Assistant Environmental Officer at the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly, who supervised the exercise, lauded the church for undertaking the clean-up exercise annually and urged other corporate organizations in the country to emulate them.
