Surveyors introduced to new technologies in surveying

This year’s GEO User Conference which aimed at introducing surveyors to the use of new technologies and equipment has opened at Koforidua.

The conference is the second to be organized by Geo-Tech Systems Limited, surveying consultants and distributors of surveying equipment.

This year’s conference is being attended by 100 participants from all over the country from both the public and private sector.

The theme is “Enhancing productivity in surveying with technology.”

Speaking at the formal opening of the conference, Mr Jones Boadu, Deputy Executive Secretary of the Lands Commission, said technological advancement had made surveying to play a major role in the development of society such as in the areas of local governance, land use, energy, natural resource management, navigation, disaster management and public safety.

He said the Land Commission in its quest to stay abreast with technology, was to establish a network of 42 Continuous Operating Reference Stations (CORS) across the country.

The network of CORS are intended to make surveying easier, reduce time turnaround, time in doing survey and improve on data sharing between the Lands Commission and its stakeholders.

The Chief Executive Officer of Geo-Tech Systems, Mr Stephen Djaba, said technology was fast changing the face of surveying and called on the universities to adopt systems that would enable the students to easily adopt the use of new technology.
