Stop the wrong application of agro-chemicals – medical practitioner

Dr Andrew Ankamah, a United States -based Ghanaian physician, has expressed concern about the habitual wrong application of agro-chemicals to food crops, saying it has dangerous health implications.

He said eating foods contaminated by harmful chemicals such, as pesticides, could lead to numbness, stomach aches, eye, kidney and brain impairment, and cardio-vascular problems.

The President, and Co-founder of Good Samaritan Medical and Rehabilitation Mission, Ghana, expressed the concern when he led a 50-member team to undertake a free health screening exercise for 600 people at Babianeha, in the Jaman South District of the Brong Ahafo Region.

Dr Ankamah, therefore, advised farmers to strictly follow the product instructions in the application of chemicals on the farm, while Ghanaians must be discerning in their choices of foods.

They must also adopt healthy lifestyles and exercises to stay healthy.

He complained about the proliferation of medicines in the society including imported fake drugs, saying abusing prescribed drugs also result in serious health conditions, especially when they are not genuine.

He, therefore, appealed to the requisite authorities to address these problems.

The Good Samaritan Medical and Rehabilitation Mission is a subsidiary of African Neighbourbood and Medical Mission, Incorporated, USA.
