The Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) has clarified issues regarding its alleged recommendation to increase the number of Members of Parliament (MPs) from the current 275 to 400.
Some media reports indicated that the IEA as part of its recommendations to end the winner-takes-all system of governance has called for increasing the number of parliamentarians to 400.
Dr Michael Ofori-Mensah, Senior Research Fellow at IEA explained in an interview that, the IEA-Winner Takes All (WTA) Advisory Committee has not come out with any recommendations yet, as it has not conclude its work.
He said the issue of increasing the number of parliamentarians to 400 was one of the proposals that were made as part of its nationwide consultations, but not the position of the 11- member Advisory Committee.
He said the main objective of the IEA-WTA Advisory Committee is to come out with recommendations that would help promote more inclusive governance, instead of the current system of the winner takes all, which is associated with enmity, tension and sabotage.
Dr Ofori Mensah gave the assurance that the IEA-WTA Advisory Committee would at end of its nationwide consultations made its recommendations known to the public.
