The acting Chief Executive Officer of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr Samuel Asiamah, has announced the preparedness of the country’s largest hospital to handle any suspected case of the deadly Ebola virus.
Dr Asiamah said the Hospital’s authorities have put in place a schedule to handle any emergency case.
He made these known on Monday, August 4, when the Minister of Health, Dr Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah, paid a courtesy call on the facility as part of a working visit to stakeholders of the Ministry.
Dr Asiamah disclosed that the Hospital’s emergency suite has been designated to be used to see to suspected Ebola cases.
So far, the disease, which was first recorded in West Africa in February, has killed over 700 people in Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria, which on Monday, August 4 recorded its second reported case.
There were reports last week that health workers at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital abandoned a man brought from Koforidua and suspected to be suffering from the virus.
“Our staff have already been trained,” Dr Asiamah assured. “We have those who will do the public health aspect of it and those who will actually handle the case management.”
