Melcom donates 639 pints to Blood Bank

The Melcom Care Foundation, the charity wing of the Melcom Group, has donated 639 pints of blood to the National Blood Bank at its second edition of nationwide blood donation exercise.

A statement issued by Mr Anil Tahilramani, Melcom Group Communications Officer, and copied to the Ghana News Agency on Friday, said the blood donation exercise was held on Wednesday, July 30, in 15 branches.

These are Adum and Adiebeda in Kumasi, Koforidua, Sunyani, Ho, Tamale, Bolgatanga, Hohoe, Cape Coast, Takoradi, Tema, Accra Central, Spintex, Melcom Plus, and Teshie in Accra.

It said this was part of the group’s corporate social responsibilities to help save people from needless deaths, especially pregnant women and children.

The statement said during the first edition of the Melcom Care Foundation’s blood donation exercise in June 2013, 435 pints of blood was donated, adding that the second edition was an impressive improvement upon the first.

It lauded Ghanaians for responding to their call for blood donation and urged more people to donate safe blood to ensure timely access to it under emergency situations.

The statement urged the media to continue to increase public awareness about why timely access to safe blood was essential for the nation as part of a comprehensive approach to prevent maternal deaths.
