Bernard Mornah, the General Secretary of People’s National Convention (PNC) has commended the National Youth Organiser of his party, Mr. Abu Ramadan and Evans Nimako for emerging triumphant in the law-suit filed against the Electoral Commission (EC).
“I have always held the view that there are lots of issues that are in conflict with our subordinate laws. “It is evident in our constitution that subordinate laws must go while the main laws stay,” he said.
This comes in the wake of an order given by the Supreme Court compelling the EC to suspend the voter registration exercise.
Mr. Ramadan and Evans Nimako in seeking true and proper interpretation of Article 42 of the Constitution sued the EC over the use of the National Health Insurance (NHIS) card as a requirement to register.
The order was made a few minutes when the case was called and one of the justices, His Lordship Mr. Justice Jones Dotse said contrary to the pendency of the case before the court, he had seen an advert on a TV the previous day in which the exercise was said to begin the next day.
Counsel for the EC, Mr James Quarshie Idun after consulting with Mr Amadu Sulley, Dep. Chairman in charge of Operations at EC apologised and told the court that it was an oversight and that steps would be taken to address the anomaly.
Speaking to Alhassan Suhuyini on Alhaji and Alhaji on Saturday, Bernard Mornah indicated that as much as the decision of the court is a good one, it will automatically affect the electoral calendar.
Adding his voice, Mr. Samuel Nartey George, a member of the NDC communications team believed the decision of the court is a “flat excuse.”
