The Ashanti Regional branch of the Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Ghana (FOMWAG), has organized a fun-fair for children drawn from across the region, during which they were feted with food and drinks.
It has been an annual ritual to mark the Eid-Ul-Fitr celebration.
More than 1,800 kids, many of them orphans, took part in this year’s event held at the Jubilee Park in Kumasi.
They were treated to music, engaged in the recitation of the Holy Quran, and competitive games.
Hajia Yasmin Appiedu, Ashanti Regional President of the Association, said the goal was not only to entertain, but to also educate the children on good morals.
She used the occasion to remind parents of their responsibility to assist children to remain strong in their faith, and to also ensure their proper upbringing.
She gave thanks to Allah for taking Muslims through yet another period of 30 days fasting, to cleanse their souls and bodies, and to re-focus on Him.
She also expressed gratefulness to individuals and organizations for their support for the Association in the last 23 years to fete kids
Malama Indo Iyishetu Ahmed, Chaplain of the Association, advised the children to be disciplined and work hard on their books.
She also urged them to resist bad peer influence that could ruin their future.
