Rename KIA – Nzema Forum

Participants at a people’s forum in Axim in the Nzema East District have called on the government to change the name of the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) to its former name of Accra International Airport (AIA) in the spirit of reconciliation.

They said the name Kotoka still evokes fear, humiliation and human rights abuse, among many Ghanaians. The forum called on the government to replace names of people who disrupted the country’s democratic process at one point or the other with that of others who sacrificed their lives in the struggle for independence and democratic rule. The forum bemoaned the inability of the authorities to compensate people whose lands were converted into rubber plantation.

The Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, Mr Akwasi Osei-Agyei assured the Chiefs and land owners that he would investigate the matter and ensure that all monies due them are paid.
