I’m the substantive chief of Klagon – Nii Klan

Nii Bortey Klan, Chief of Klagon, near Adjei Kojo, has made a passionate appeal to the Registrar of the National House of Chiefs, to intervene and bring the Nungua Traditional Council (NTC) to order, to ensure peace and stability within the Klagon Township.

Making the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at his residence at the weekend, NII Klan said, as the substantive chief of Klagon for the past 11 years, he read with surprise, a newspaper publication in June, emanating from the NTC, that it had inducted 10 divisional chiefs for various communities under its jurisdiction, including Klagon.

Last month, the Council inducted into office one Nii Laryea Gyewohene as the chief of Klagon.

Nii Klan said, as a gazetted chief by the National House of Chiefs on April 12, 2012, he was of the view that the Council’s action constituted a breach of the law, and had the potential to cause fear and panic among the people of Klagon.

He said as a peace-loving ruler, he had forwarded copies of the petition to the appropriate authorities, including the Minister of Chieftaincy and Traditional Affairs, the Registrar of the Greater-Accra Regional House of Chiefs, the Regional Minister, and the Divisional and District Police Commanders for Nungua and Sakumono respectively.

Nii Klan, therefore, urged the National Registrar, to expedite action on the matter, to ensure that the NTC did not take the law into its own hands.
