Court remands welder for threat of death

A Kumasi Circuit Court has ordered that a welder be held in prison custody over threat of death and unlawful assault. Akwasi Aboagye, 22, pleaded not guilty to the charges and would make his next appearance on July 31. The accused reportedly attacked one Juliet Nana Adu for refusing his sex request. Police Chief Inspector Rita Essuman told the court presided over by Mrs Afua Adu-Amankwaah that this happened on July 5, at Agric in Kumasi.

Juliet, a hairdresser, was returning from an errand, when she met Aboagye, who demanded sex from her but she refused.

This angered him and he gave her some slaps.

The victim run to her house to inform the mother, Veronica Adjei, and she made she went to the house of the accused to ask for an explanation for his strange action.

The prosecution said the accused then swore to kill Veronica within a week. A report was therefore made to the police and he was arrested.

Police Chief Inspector Essuman said Aboagye in his caution statement admitted assaulting Juliet but denied threatening to kill anyone.
