We can’t be paying the inefficiency of TOR, BOST – Tarzan

Former Chief Executive Officer [CEO] of the Volta River Authority [VRA], Dr. Charles Wereko Brobbey has expressed dismay at the recent increment in petroleum products, which has affected transportation fares.

The New Patriotic Party [NPP] founding member, Dr. Wereko Brobbey opined that the hardship Ghanaians are experiencing under the Mahama-led administration is now unbearable.

According to him, “Protecting the price of fuel is the most sensitive decision any government could take.”

Speaking on JOY FM’s Super Morning Show, outspoken Tarzan wonders why the “suffering” Ghanaian rather pays higher utilities than the average American.

“The people of Ghana who earn way less than the minimum wage pay more than the average American. How is that possible?

“…if international prices of fuel are going down, prices should go down here [in Ghana]. The mechanisms set up are not working, as they should. Why do we have to pay for the inefficiency of TOR, BOST, etc.” he cried.

Transport operators announced a 15% increment in fares, which takes effect from today, Monday July 14.

The new fares announced Saturday, July 12 was reached after consultations between the Transport Ministry and the transport operators represented by the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC).

The increment was planned to coincide with the hike in fuel prices at fuelling stations.

The price of petrol (premium) saw the highest increase, up 23.08 percent. This means a litre of the commodity which used to sell at Ghc2.73 per litre would now sell at Ghc3.36 a litre.

Premix fuel increased by 25.60 per cent to Ghc1.57 per litre. Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) saw an increment of 15.68 percent, selling now at Ghc3.23 per litre according to the latest NPA figures.
