Driver jailed for use of narcotic

An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced Richardson Owusu, a driver to four months imprisonment in hard labour, in addition to 100 penalty units for use of narcotic drugs.

Prosecuting, Detective Chief Inspector Samuel Sarkwa told the court presided over by Mr Francis Obiri, that the complainant in the case is a Chief Inspector of Police stationed at the Achimota Police station.

He said on June 3, at about 0530 hours, a team of police officers from the Tesano Division embarked on a special exercise within the jurisdiction to clamp down on criminals and drug peddlers.

The prosecution said in the course of the exercise, the convict, Richardson, was arrested at the Achimota railways, with 82 wraps of powdery substances suspected to be narcotic drug and a cash of GH¢82 was retrieved from him.
