The District Chief Executive (DCE) of Asuogyaman, the Hon. Thomas Ampem Nyarko has described the demonstration by a group calling itself concerned Ghanaians for Responsible Governance (CGRG) as needless because President Mahama is not an “economic magician to just change the economic fortunes of the country overnight.”
He posited that Ghanaians must remain hopeful for a better Ghana and in so doing continue to play their individual parts as citizens of the country. He explained that the President in not unaware of the economic challenges put all the needed measures in place to fix the challenges in both short and long terms, adding that these measures cannot yield the needed results within a twinkle of an eye.
Hon. Thomas Ampem Nyarko assured Ghanaians in his District not to give up hope because the projects being rolled out under the leadership of President John Mahama such as the heavy investments in agriculture and infrastructure development namely Ghana Gas, the Takoradi Port Expansion, the Tema Port Expansion, the Bui Dam, the Komenda Sugar Factory, the Affordable Housing Projects & the 200 community schools to name a few, will yield results for all to see.
The DCE said this when addressing teaming supporters of the NDC in their thousands at Akosombo in Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region on Tuesday after embarking on a cleanup exercise and a donation of assorted items to the VRA Hospital at Akosombo.
Present were opinion leaders of the District and NDC party executives of the constituency. The non-partisan group calling itself Concerned Ghanaians for Responsible Governance (CGRG) on Tuesday marched to petition President John Mahama on what it said, has been the worsening economic conditions in the country.
Dubbed ‘Occupy Flagstaff House’ the organizers say every Ghanaians deserved to be happy and are tired of talking about the hardship but many have questioned the rationale behind the protest since most of the demonstrators were middle class citizens, who came in their cars, ate at Afrikiko in their numbers and were notable figures in opposition.
The demonstration coincided with the celebration of Ghana’s 54th Republic Day, July 1- the day that the country totally liberated itself from British Colonial rule. Hundreds of demonstrators clad in red dresses and hand band pitched camp at the Efua Sunderland Children’s Park to effects the protest.
Thomas Ampem Nyarkio continued that despite the economic challenges facing the country, the government has not relented on its responsibility of ensuring development across the country. He said a number of developmental projects have been completed while others are ongoing. He recounted a number of development projects executed in Asuogyaman district since he was appointed DCE, adding that residents in the district can bear witness to the improvement in infrastructure by the government.
He called on supporters of the NDC in the Asuogyaman Constituency to unite in their quest to recapture the parliamentary seat from the New Patriotic Party in 2016.
