Court remands labourer for having sex with daughter

A Tarkwa Circuit Court on Friday remanded a 45 year-old labourer, Kwabena Eshun, into Prison custody for allegedly having sexual intercourse with his nine year-old daughter at Nkanponase in the Tarkwa Nsueam Municipality.

The accused pleaded not guilty to incest and will re-appear on July 8 this year. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court presided by Mr. Justice Samuel Obeng Diawuo that the complainant Love Akins is a senior sister to the victim and lived in the same house with the accused who is the victim’s father.

He said about four months ago, the victim’s mother left the victim in the care of the accused when she left the house early in the morning to go and sell grandnut cake. Chief Inspector Amponsah said the accused took advantage of the absence of the victim’s mother and had sexual intercourse with the victim on a wooden bench in his bed room on four different occasions that day.

After the act, the accused warned the victim not to disclose what happened to anyone else she will die and gave her one Ghana cedis as her pocket money for school, he said.

Chief Inspector Amponsah said two weeks later, the teacher of the victim noticed that the attitude of the victim had changed and invited her mother to the school and when the victim was questioned as to who has been having sex with her, she mentioned the accused as the one.

He said a report was made to the Police and the accused was arrested and detained for investigation. A medical form was issued to the victim for examination at the Tarkwa Government Hospital and Dr. Agnes Asare who examined the victim indicated in her report that the victim was sexually active.
