The congregation of First Baptist Church, in Takoradi, on Saturday organised a blood donation exercise as part of activities marking the church’s 50th autonomy in Ghana.
The church which came to Ghana in 1890 was under the Nigeria Baptist Convention until the late 1950s when it finally had its independence and formed a convention in the country.
A team from the Effia-Nkwanta Hospital led by Mr Emil Anornu, a Senior Blood Donor Organiser, facilitated the donation to argument the supply of blood at the Hospital’s blood bank.
Reverend Bennet Elvis Niboi, Pastor and Chairman of the Sekondi/Takoradi Ministers’ Fellowship of the Baptist church, said the time has come for the church to respond to the social needs of the society.
He said making Christ relevant in the fast changing world required that Christianity becomes more practical to fulfill the emotional, spiritual and physical needs of the people.
Rev Niboi added that the blood donation was a contribution to the health needs of the vulnerable in the society.
“As a church, we are responding to the issues that affect the society,” he said. The National climax of the anniversary will be held at the Independence Square in Accra on July 20.
