The Ghana Water Company Limited says Ghanaians – especially those in Accra – should not expect any substantial improvement in the water supply situation despite the recent announcement by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) to charge the consumers more.
“We will still have some difficulties but at least we are happy something has come up,” the Chief Manager of Public Relations for GWCL, Michael Agyemang, told TV3 on Thursday, June 26, a day after PURC’s upward reviews of utilities.
Water tariff was increased by 6.1 per cent while electricity went up by 12.09 per cent, and the tariffs are expected to take effect from July 1.
That is better than nothing anyway, Mr Agyemang said about the new figure.
He said the Company is still below its production capacity for residents in the country’s capital, for instance.
“Don’t forget in Accra, we are always saying that we can’t meet the demand of everybody because the water that we are producing now can’t go everywhere.”
He said the 93-million-gallon daily production is far below the Company’s target of 153 million gallons per day for Accra.
