Parents urged to choose education over child labour

A director of justice and human rights has appealed to parents to educate their children instead of engaging them in child labour.

Mr Richmond Mensah, Effutu Municipal Director of the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), made the plea at a durbar to mark the International Day against Child Labour, held in Winneba.

The event was organized by Effutu Municipal Assembly in partnership with International Needs Ghana, on the theme “Combating Child Labour through effective Social Protection”.

Mr Mensah expressed regret that some children of schooling age are fishing and engaged in other forms of child labour to the disadvantage of their education.

Mr Mensah urged parents in the municipality to invest their limited resources to educate their children rather than spending them on litigations and other unnecessary things.

Ms Joyce Odame, Child Right Commissioner said the NGO was undertaking a project to promote an enhanced, safe and protective environment for children.
