‘Missing’ KATH baby: Parliament to reinvestigate if…

The Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho, may veto fresh investigations into the ‘missing’ baby saga that rocked the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) if the investigative report by the Ministry of Health is not satisfactory.

This was made known by Member of Parliament for Asawase Constituency Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak on TV3’s Midday Live on Wednesday, June 18.

Alhaji Mohammed, whose constituency the woman in the center of the saga Suweiba Abdul-Mumin hails from, impressed upon the Speaker on Tuesday to request a copy of the report from the Health Ministry.

In his submission on Tuesday, the Majority Chief Whip pointed out that there were “some unanswered questions” with the Ministry’s report, which was made public last week.

He said the Ministry should have followed Act 857 of 2013 in the investigation process “and once we get the report we will be able to know what they did.”

The former Minister of Youth and Sports indicated that the Speaker has two options when the report is submitted to Parliament.

He may ask the House to debate the report on the floor of the House, Alhaji Muntaka said, or it may be referred to the Standing Committee on Health for sub-committee discussions.

“If the House decides that [the report] is not satisfactory, Parliament as an institution may conduct fresh investigations into the issue.”
