A Circuit Court in Accra has sentenced two persons to 20 years imprisonment each for defiling a 13-year-old girl at Dansoman.
This was after the court had found Kwame Nkrumah, a 20-year-old auto mechanic, and Emmanuel Asumadu, a 21-year-old auto electrician, guilty on the charge of conspiracy to commit crime and defilement.
The court also sentenced Nkrumah to six months imprisonment on the charge of indecent assault. Sentences are to run concurrently.
The court presided over by Ms. Sedina Agbemava, however, discharged Nkrumah on the charge of gross indecency. Prince Yeboah an accomplice is at large.
Prosecuting Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sarah Acquah, told the court that the victim lives at Flamingo near Dansoman with her mother, who is also the complainant in the matter.
He said the accused persons were friends residing in the same vicinity at Dansoman Sahara. On July 26, 2012, the victim left her mother’s house at Flamingo to visit her father at Dansoman.
Prosecution said on her way, the victim met the convicts fetching water near the Dansoman Sahara main road.
ASP Acquah said Nkrumah took advantage of the victim and lured her into a church premise where Yeboah joined them.
Nkrumah also made the victim to watch pornographic film on his mobile phone. Later at about 21:00 hours, the convicts lured the victim into one of the rooms where the church keeps its instruments.
Nkrumah and Asumadu had sex with the victim in turns, and after the act, the convicts led the victim to Dansoman roundabout and abandoned her.
The following day while the complainant was on her way to the victim’s father’s house to enquire about her, she met the daughter loitering around at Flamingo Traffic Light and when she was quizzed, narrated her ordeal to her mother.
Prosecution said the complainant lodged a complaint at the Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit, Dansoman, where a medical form was issued to the victim for examination and treatment.
Nkrumah and Asumadu were later arrested.
Meanwhile, the GNA has gathered that the victim had suffered some trauma as a result of the act and was running away from people and throwing stones at men who come her way.
