Ashanti Regional Police arrest fake soldier

A 25-year-old man believed to be part of an armed robbery syndicate that put on military uniforms as part of its modus operandi to rob residents of Awia Nkwanta on the Manso Nkwanta Highway has been arrested by the Ashanti Regional Highway Patrol Team.

Kwame Asare, the suspect, was grabbed after police on a patrol of the highway spotted him on the dark section of the road with a torchlight flashing drivers and passers-by to stop.

Briefing journalist at the Police Command, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Kofi Boakye said the suspect upon seeing the patrol team was jittery and when questioned about his identity, could not give the police any official identity.

Kwame Asare claimed he was in the company of a lance corporal Osei Assibey of the 4 BN here in Kumasi who gave him the military uniform.

The police is, however, sounding a note of caution to any service personnel involved in violent crime, that the police administration will not spare anyone found foul of the law.

DCOP Kofi Boakye said the fight against crime in the region is still on course to sanitize the region and that includes men in uniform who have criminal tendencies
