National Security Council to meet University of Ghana

The National Security Council Secretariat says it has scheduled a meeting with authorities of the University of Ghana to resolve problems that the location of the toll booth was likely to pose to motorists.

In a statement signed by Colonel E.W.K Nibo (Rtd) in Accra on Wednesday, the Secretariat said it had come to their notice that the toll booth which was pulled down was being re-constructed by the University at the same location.

According to the statement, the toll booth was pulled down because “it was causing public nuisance in the flow of traffic on the Accra- Madina-Aburi Highway.”

In February this year, the National Security Council Secretariat pulled down the Okponglo Toll both of the University.

The University of Ghana began taking road tolls from motorist after it contracted a loan of 2.3 million dollars for the construction and rehabilitation of its roads.

Consequently, private car owners were charged Gh¢1 while commercial vehicles, as well as trucks, were made to pay Ghc2 and Ghc3 respectively.

The University, however, suspended the collection of road tolls from motorists after a government directive and a promise to pay an amount of 2.3 million dollars the university had contracted for their infrastructural projects.
