As the 2014 Brazil World Cup approaches, soccer fans in the country are warning the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to desist from the frequent power fluctuations it is inflicting on Ghanaians, else the company risks incurring their wrath.
A number of football fans have, through the Daily Heritage, cautioned the ECG, Volta River Authority and Ghana Grid Company Limited against power outages during the World Cup, especially, when Ghana is playing.
Some have even vowed to march to the premises of the companies to demonstrate against any such power cuts.
According to them, recent erratic power supply poses a threat to the fans getting the opportunity to watch all the matches.
Their frustrations began during the final Champions League match last Saturday between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid in Lisbon in Portugal where the power went off for hours.
“I hope that they put an end to this ‘dum sor dum sor’ thing and make sure they put things in order before the most prestigious tourney. I do not want to miss a single game at all,” stated Kwame Ofori.
On Saturday, some fans had to carry their television sets in search of where there was light while some also used their car batteries to connect to their television sets to watch the sold out game on the European club calendar.
“We anticipate that during the upcoming tournament in June, the same trend is going to continue because all promises of the ECG have been in vain and nothing has been done. They also know that Ghanaians cannot take them on,” master Ofori further stated.
On his part, Samuel Danquah, wished there would not be any power interruptions during the tournament so that fans could watch all the matches, and appealed to the power managers to ensure reliable supply throughout the tournament.
