Boy, 16, drowns in abandoned galamsey pit

A 16-year-old illegal mining operator, Enoch Afriyie, got drowned in an abandoned “galamsey” pit at Prestea.

The corpse have since been deposited at the Prestea Government Hospital pending autopsy.

ASP Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, Western Regional Public Relations Officer of the Police Service confirmed the incident to the GNA at Sekondi.

She said on May 14, one Kwesi Krana from Nakaba-Prestea reported the incident to the police around 2040 hours.

Police investigations revealed that the deceased went to wash his cloth in the abandoned pit which was filled with water, but slipped and fell into it.
