Irrigation Development Authority Constructs Dam At Akuse

Accra, (Greater Accra) 22 Sept.,

The Irrigation Development Authority (IDA) is constructing a dam between Akuse and Asutuare to irrigate 3,000 hectares in the Accra plains. The 12 billion-cedi project which is expected to be completed by the end of May, next year, is being funded by the African Development Bank (ADB). Mr. Oduro Gyarteng, Chief Executive of the IDA, told the Ghana New Agency in Accra today, that the Kpong Irrigation Project is being constructed by Impregilo Recchi and that it would enhance the country’s agricultural production. He said the project would be handed over to farmers to manage and maintain when completed. Crops to be cultivated, mainly for export, will include Asian vegetables, flowers, pineapples, pawpaw, banana, plantain and rice.
