An Accra Circuit Court on Friday remanded Edwin Oduro, a driver, in police custody for possessing firearms, contrary to section six of the Arms and Ammunition Act 118/62.
Oduro was convicted on his own guilty plea, and would, therefore, re-appear on Monday, May 19 for sentencing.
Inspector E. Afful, prosecuting the case, told the court presided over by Mr. Francis Obiri that the complainant is the MTN supervisor at Taifa Burkia Branch.
He said on May 12, at about 0930, the accused person visited the said MTN office to receive money sent to him through MTN mobile money.
Inspector Afful said, thereafter, the accused person bought an MTN SIM card and asked the complainant to hide the number for him, but the accused person was asked to come the following day due to system error from the network providers.
The prosecution said, on the following day, the accused person called at the office to still hide his number, but just as he entered into the office, the complainant spotted him with a locally manufactured pistol concealed in his trousers.
Inspector Afful said the complainant alerted the Taifa Police, who quickly responded to the distress call and arrested the accused person with the said pistol, for questioning.
