Secretary General of the Ghana Trades Union Congress (TUC), Dr. Kofi Asamoah, has expressed hope in the ongoing National Economic Forum, suggesting that the outcome will help the country deal with the economic challenges it is facing.
Dr. Asamoah said the diverse background of participants and the “seriousness” with which they are holding discussions speak of a positive outcome of the Forum.
He was speaking with TV3’s Nana Akua Asare on the second day of the four-day forum, which is aimed at finding solutions to the current economic challenges in the country.
He dismissed the school of thought that Ghana needs a bailout from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
“We have not really seen the real gains out of these IMF interventions,” he stated.
“We strongly believe that we are the people of the country, and it is important that we look out for what can work for us, home grown ideas that should be brought out,” he stated.
The Forum began on Tuesday, May 12 and it is expected to come up with a roadmap as regards measures to solve the country’s economic challenges.
It is being chaired by Vice President Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur though participants have been put into sub-groups to discuss the issues around six thematic areas.
