Salesman jailed for stealing

A Tarkwa Circuit Court has sentenced a 28-year-old salesman of the New Atuabo branch of Nestral Company Limited, to four years imprisonment in hard labour for stealing Ghc21,000 belonging to the company.

The court ordered William Manfel, the convict, to refund the money after serving his sentence. He pleaded guilty.

Police Detective, Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah, told the court presided over by Mr. Samuel Obeng Diawuo that the complainant, Mr. Frederick Holla Ateavo, works with Ashfoam Limited and also helps in managing the company, which deals in paint.

He said on March 25, last year, Manfel was posted to the New Atuabo depot of the company and on April 23, an accountant of the company audited his operations and detected that the money could not be traced.

The Prosecutor said the auditor of the company made a report to the police and Manfel was arrested. Detective Amponsah said the convict confessed to the police that he stole a little over Ghc10,000 and not the initial amount mentioned.
